Paying for a roof
What Alabama homeowners insurance covers, how a hail or wind claim pays, the discounts for Class 4 and FORTIFIED, and financing for replacements, deductibles and upgrades.
Insurance
Storm damage — hail, wind, trees — is covered under a standard Alabama homeowners policy, subject to your deductible, which for wind and hail is now often 1 to 2 percent of the dwelling coverage rather than a flat $1,000. Age, wear and neglected maintenance are never covered. With replacement-cost coverage, the carrier pays the depreciated value first and the rest when the work is done; with an ACV roof endorsement — common on older roofs — it pays only the depreciated value. Our claims guide explains the details, and our claims service handles the inspection, adjuster meeting and estimate.
We don't waive deductibles — it's illegal in Alabama — and we don't inflate claims. We make them complete.
Discounts that keep paying
Alabama law requires insurers to discount FORTIFIED-designated homes, and most carriers discount Class 4 impact-resistant shingles on the wind/hail portion of the premium. Both are re-roof upgrades of a few thousand dollars that pay back over several years — and if the roof is being replaced on a claim anyway, it's the cheapest time to add them.
Financing
Most Huntsville roof replacements land between $9,000 and $20,000, and many homeowners spread that out. We work with a national home-improvement lender: apply on your phone, soft credit pull to pre-qualify, terms from a 12-month same-as-cash promotion to a 10-year fixed loan, funds paid to us when the job is done and you've signed off. A HELOC is usually cheaper if you have one.
Spending less without building it wrong
- Get the storm inspection — if the roof has covered damage, the replacement may cost you the deductible instead of the full price.
- Bundle gutters, guards, skylights and ventilation into the re-roof.
- Class 4 and FORTIFIED pay back through the discounts.
- Repair, don't replace, when the roof has life left — we'll tell you.
- Fix the ventilation — it's the cheapest way to make the next roof last.
What we don't do
- Take full payment up front, or 'cash today' storm deals.
- Waive or absorb deductibles.
- File claims on roofs that don't have damage.
- Roof over old shingles to hit a lower price.
Questions about paying for a roof
What financing do you offer?
Third-party home-improvement financing — soft-pull pre-qualification, terms from 12-month same-as-cash to 10-year fixed, approvals in minutes, funds paid at completion.
What's the minimum for financing?
About $2,500 — a repair-plus-gutters job, or any replacement.
Can I finance just my deductible?
Yes — on an insurance replacement, many homeowners finance the deductible and the upgrades (Class 4, FORTIFIED, metal) the claim doesn't cover.
Do you take credit cards?
Yes, no surcharge on the deposit; a small processing fee on large balances, disclosed on the estimate.
Is there a discount for adding gutters or skylights to a replacement?
Yes — the crew and the open eave are already there. Gutters, guards, skylights and ventilation are cheapest as part of a re-roof.
