Roofing in Harvest

Roofing for Harvest, Monrovia and the Highway 53 corridor

Fast-growing subdivisions, acreage homes with metal roofs, and the corner of the county the 2011 and 2012 tornadoes taught to take roofs seriously.

Emergency tarp being secured over storm damage from a fallen limb on a North Alabama roof

Harvest and Monrovia are where north-west Madison County has grown — the subdivisions along Highway 53, Capshaw Road, Jeff Road and Wall Triana that filled in after 2000, the older neighborhoods around Harvest proper, and the acreage and farmhouses toward Toney and the Tennessee line. It's also the part of the county that took the 2011 and 2012 tornadoes head-on, and the roofs here have been replaced, repaired and inspected more than almost anywhere in North Alabama since. Hail comes through most years.

We're in Harvest weekly for storm claims, replacements and repairs. Madison County issues the permits for this unincorporated area; the newer subdivisions have HOAs. Acreage homes and farmhouses lean toward standing-seam metal, and the FORTIFIED Roof standard is popular with homeowners who've watched a storm take a roof once already.

Questions from Harvest homeowners

Who issues the permit in Harvest?

Madison County — Harvest and Monrovia are unincorporated. We pull it and schedule the inspection.

Is a FORTIFIED roof worth it here?

If you've lived through one of the storms this area gets, most people say yes: the sealed deck keeps water out when the shingles go, and Alabama insurers discount it. It adds $1,500 to $4,000 to a replacement.

Do you do metal on farmhouses?

Yes — standing seam on the house, screw-down or standing seam on the barn and shop, and the gutters that go with them.

How soon after a storm can you inspect?

Usually within a day or two once the roads are clear; homes with water coming in are tarped the same day.
