Roofing northwest Huntsville — Providence, Research Park and the subdivisions in between
The side of town that grew with the Arsenal and the research park: 1970s–90s brick ranches, 2000s new-urbanist Providence, and thousands of commercial roofs. Open ground to the west means the hail arrives here first.
West of Memorial Parkway and north of the Arsenal, Huntsville spreads across the flat ground between Sparkman Drive, Research Park Boulevard, Slaughter Road and the Madison line. Cummings Research Park — the second-largest research park in the country — sits in the middle with hundreds of low-slope commercial roofs, and around it are the neighborhoods that housed its engineers: Sherwood Park and the 1970s–80s brick ranches off Sparkman, the 1990s subdivisions toward Slaughter Road, and the Village of Providence, the new-urbanist community of front porches and alleys built from the early 2000s on. MidCity, rising on the old Madison Square Mall site, adds the newest apartment and retail roofs in the city.
This is open country compared to the mountain side of town, and the spring storms that come across Limestone County hit it first — the hail and straight-line wind claims we file every year cluster here and in Madison. Residential work is hail inspections with test squares, 1990s architectural-shingle replacements now at the end of their life, Providence's HOA-reviewed reroofs, chimney and flashing repair on the older ranches, and Class 4 impact-resistant upgrades for homeowners tired of filing. Commercial work is TPO and modified bitumen on the Research Park buildings and the retail along University Drive. City of Huntsville permits on all of it.

Questions from Northwest Huntsville & Research Park homeowners
Does northwest Huntsville get more hail than the rest of the city?
It sees the storms first and with less in the way. The mountains on the east side break up some cells; the flat ground toward Madison and Harvest doesn't. It's why so many of our claim inspections are between Sparkman Drive and the Madison line.
Does Providence's HOA review a new roof?
Yes — color and material. We include the shingle sample and the manufacturer sheet with the estimate so the approval and the scheduling run together.
My 1995 roof off Slaughter Road has been patched twice. Replace it?
At thirty years, yes. Architectural shingles from the 1990s were rated for 25–30 and Alabama sun and hail don't grant extensions. A third patch on brittle shingles leaks around the patch; we'll show you the photos and let you decide.
Do you do commercial roofs in Research Park?
Yes — TPO and modified bitumen replacement, restoration coatings when the insulation is dry, and maintenance programs with per-building reporting.
Is Class 4 worth it here?
On this side of town, usually. Most Alabama carriers give a premium discount for impact-resistant shingles, and a roof that survives 1-inch hail without a claim keeps your rate where it is.
